Nice story...a 15 minute drive further northeast from Bad Axe would have placed you in Caseville. The Bella Vista is on the beach and always has plenty of rooms and cottages. If you’re a parrot head, come back for cheeseburger fest in August.

Next time skip Detroit and head to Royal Oak. You can hit some of the top pubs as you stroll through town. Want a little edgier atmosphere? Download Yelp on you cell phone and drive over to Ferndale. It’s the new artist colony in metro Detroit.

FYI - I'm the 3rd, my son of course is the 4th.... I use III as he uses IV when we write our name completely out.

He was born in Italy, and of course wouldn't you know it - there in the middle of this small town is a church, with a bell tower and clocks facing in two directions - North and South.
The North face has the I I I I and the South face has the IV. Ever since my son's birth, I've found this topic VERY fasinating; so I continued to look at all European town clocks... and guess what - SAME all over the place...

Even on my older Sprint 'flip' phone - I had set the front screen to show as a clock with roman numbers - (to my amazement) it had IV - BUT - when I flipped the phone open and the clock appeared with an I I I I....

Oh and the best part about IV and IIII is that - at any bar - it is a GREAT way to win a bet! Cause Most Folks will say the clock would have an IV and NOT I I I I ... food for thought.

That sounds like a lot of work. I stopped doing wallpaper a few years back because of the work.

When we moved here two years ago, we went to a bigger house in size, but better in room arrangements with more open living space on the first floor and everything else the two of us need so that stairs aren't a necessity anymore. We wanted enough room for when our out of town kids come home. And it's quite a nice space when they're all here like they were last week. But when they're gone, it's a lot of space for just the two of us.

I hope your project goes smoothly.

I'm a big fan of downsizing, Jeanne. We are getting rid of everything we don't absolutely love or need so we can move into a smaller place. Now that the last child is graduating from high school, there's no need for the big house.
Good luck with the painting and wallpapering.
